About

It's a bit overdue and underthunk, but I thought I would fill in a little bit of info about me here for anyone that is curious.

I've been knitting since I was about 8 years old, when one of my aunts came to stay with us for a summer and taught me a myriad of domestic tricks that my own mom was clearly lacking in. Like most of the women on my mom's side she was blunt, bossy, intimidating, creative, clever, cursed with a wicked streak and a dark sense of humor.

My forever role model, obviously.

I was always a grumpy kid..."serious" is what I think the polite term is. And although I grew into a respectable adult, I still have a fair amount of grump left in me, which, it turns out, is amazing for productivity. (Tell me you haven't tried angry housecleaning and been amazed at the outcome.)

This pretty much sums up my childhood.

I continued with knitting (and sewing, a skill I did get from my mom) off and on through the years - but a few years ago I came back into it hard, thanks in large part to the internet. I know it's a common ethos of my generation but I can't help but be amazed at how much technology has changed over the years - and what that means for crafters today. YouTube tutorials! Pattern aggregation websites! Personal blogs with step-by-step project photos! The community has exploded, the information is accessible, and the materials.... GOOD GOD. This is not the itchy cheap stuff I worked with as a kid!! The needles, the yarn, the notions, the gadgets that help you craft. I LOVE goodies.

So - I've been obsessed. And here is where I write about it.

This blog is basically meant to track what I make and what inspires me. It's also been a neat way to connect with other crafters, and to show my friends and family what I'm currently working on.

A little extra info about me:
I'm hapa (Japanese-Spanish) and live currently in the Los Angeles area. I'm originally from the SF Bay Area but also lived in Hawai'i, Japan, and New Zealand.

During the day I work in educational technology at an independent school. I ride a motorcycle, love to sing, and was once tri-langual (English, Spanish, Japanese). I have a penchant for climbing trees/buildings, and love a good cocktail. I'm often an unintentional vegetarian, but love all kinds of food.

I have two dogs (corgi mixes rescued here in SoCal) a wonderful husband (tall dark and handsome - check!) a cheeky son and...another baby on the way a beautiful baby girl.

Who doesn't love a wet dog photo?

Thanks for taking a moment to learn more about me... I hope you enjoy reading about my projects as much as I enjoy doing them!
