FO at last!
Though it was the bane of my existence for weeks, I finally finished twinkie yoke jacket #2.
![]() |
clearly it was a hit |
Literally down to the wire, I stayed up late on Friday night and finished the last sleeve in the car on the way to the BBQ...but I did it! Only shitter is I didn't have time to finish the colourwork I intended. My beautiful plum blossoms will have to wait another day to bloom, for now all twinkie M has is some white abstract shaping that I managed to finish before they arrived. Although - that is mostly because it was unexpectedly chilly, and they needed to put the jackets on ASAP. Can't complain! Got to see em in action!
Here's twinkie N rocking the pink and teasing my son.
Ugh, they are too cute.
Also off my list is the mods I added to this number from last month:

smushable babies everywhere! |
I added some cuffs to the sleeves (so they can be pushed up, and for extra length - her arms were longer than expected) and a flower button and loop to close the front. I thought about adding a little "E" for personalization but the hubs was giving me death stares and I had to just let it go.
I tried desperately to get a picture of my son modeling the finished project, but no amount of cajoling would get him to come near it. I fear he is becoming to smart for my dress-up desires. So, no updated picture on this....yet. I will ask the momma to send one my way soon.
All in all....a very productive weekend!

Cool Blogs NEVER STOP
AAaaarg! Why are there so many cool blogs!? I think this is a scary black hole that I have jumped in to. Good thing I have a trail of yarn falling behind me.
Latest ARRG-inducing blog features these incredible monster pants - not sure what else to say. Just look.
and PLEASE check out KnitHacker, my new invisible best friend that doesn't know I love them yet. Thanks to Andrea using Pinterest for the lead!

Yarn Planning
The key to large online yarn orders is getting home before the husband realizes there is a package at the door, and then hiding it in the closet.
And for my upcoming ninja turtle and R2D2 beanie action, the requisite colors:
Latest arrivals are already spoken for!
For the Uxbridge Cardigan I have been dying to make as soon as I lay eyes on it in the 2011 Winter Knitscene, this nice yellow DK:

ok, so I have like 4x this amount. I love the yellow! |
For the accent work on my latest yoke jacket, some white:

This will make my 4th color and 5th order of Valley Yarn's Greenfield... |

Knitspiration - Mermaid style
Another knit-envy picture I came across - mermaid shell bra!!! Sheer brilliance!!
Check out the rest of the set (albeit at your own risk...there is a little boobie action that might be nsfw).
She is smashingly creative, and I think this is the same woman that had a pattern possibly ripped off by a famous retail clothing store... (details escape me, I'm not trying to be vague).
I originally saw the mermaid at the Naughty Needles site, I believe. Am rolling is disbelief that this is the same woman who did the sweater, and knit a matching sweater for cat...

A blog's untimely demise
As usual, I am always excited to find a new blog devoted to yarn arts.
However, lately I seem to keep coming across ones that are defunct, or at least well past their hey-day. What is this about? Are yarn people too busy to blog, or am I tré behind the curve?

On the Needles - purple madness
Two projects - both purple!
I had to order more purple yarn for the second yoke jacket - and rather than twiddle my thumbs I decided to start a scarf for Baby E's abuelita.

a little smushy now, but blocking will definitely help |
This is an amazing free pattern that has a tiny cable at the cross section of each 'X' - it actually calls for a bead to be placed at the cross but I have no beads. Too bad so sad.
Also, it is the same yarn that I used for Baby E's cardigan...on special request. Good think I had some left over! It should actually be just the perfect amount.
And as you might have noticed - this actually is no longer on needles but rather a pin because THE NEW YARN ET ARRIVE. I had to swap my needles over to start working on the cable for the second jacket.
Again, I plan on integrating a little colourwork - this time from yet another mitten pattern...why are there so many cool mittens?? These are plum blossom themed. Check out the pattern here.

Happy Valentine's Day!
Another crochet treat for you today, courtesy of Lora:
This adorable pattern can be found on Owlishly - an equally adorable crochet blog. Her hearts are a little more traditional looking, however lovely. Check it out!
I love this yarn... Lora definitely knows how to rock a color palate.
Hope everyone is having a rad day.

Boobie Update!
My awesome cousin has already knocked out a knocker!! Inspired by last week's post she found a pattern online and made magic. Check out her handiwork below... I am especially fond of the yarn she used.

looks so soft, I just wanna touch it! |
She found a website with a FREE crochet pattern to use and to share - check out the pattern here. The Oxford Family is a really cool crochet and craft blog which is now added to my blogroll (did you see these yarn bowls?! Brilliant!!). I love how easy going the writer is, I feel like I could talk story with her for ages.
Also I don't know if I am biased, but for some reason Kim's beanie reminds me of a kooky Japanese novelty gift. I mean, she's Japanese, I'm half-Japanese, there's not a lot of room for Japanese finger pointing; but I instantly thought of these:

Japanese boob pudding cups |
I think it may also be because she is the person who first showed me boob pudding. (More info here.)
Thanks for sharing, Kim!! Awesome work!

Sunday Funday - Noodling
My mother sent me this - and I can't help but wonder if it is possible!
It is from this hilarious website - Left-Handed Toons by Right-Handed People
It also reminds me of this hilarious kid recipe for noodle weenies I came across recently - jam uncooked pasta through a hot dog, boil, and enjoy!
Full details here and more pictures and step-by-step here.

Loathed but necessary non-update
This week has been less fruitful than most.
Due to some last minute Lasik surgery, I have had to skip a few days of knitting and in turn have fallen a little behind on all my knitting writings. I should be more upset but xanax seems to take care of that. :D
After a few days of sleeping and cross-eyed walking around the house, I'm back up to speed! Lasik is a strange and magical thing that I'm sure has been discussed enough so I won't bother blogging on the subject. Much like I don't know how my TV works, I am completely content to let it be mysterious, magical, appreciated, and unquestioned.
However, I was finally able to wrap up the cable yoke jacket for twinkie #1 - I'll give you a teaser of the piece and the fabric I'm going to use for a liner. Can't wait!

Manly Knitting
I'm sure there's a Brokeback Mountain joke in here somewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

Boobie beanie makes one proud to breastfeed
I just saw this new take on boobie knitting - and it's adorable! What better way to show confidence without showing an actual breast.
Not sure where it originally came from, but had it passed to me on Facebook via a friend.
UPDATE: Kim found a free pattern for this beauty and made one herself! Check out both here

On the Kneedles - Children's Yoke
Currently I'm working on something for the twins - already turning a year old! It is the Top-Down Baby and Children Yoke Jacket by Kyoko Nakayoshi (whom I greatly admire as a whole).
This is where it's at right about now:
Because I can never leave things be, and for extra fun, I am planning on adding some intrigue to the bottom edge of the sweater. Since their parents met while teaching English in Japan they have a little extra love for Japanese things - and I want to reflect this. Presto - check out the pattern from these mittens that I have been DYING to make for myself.

Cute in gray! But I'll be doing pink and purple |
